The Chosen Few was an Australian punk band formed by bass player Ian Cunningham in 1978 from the remains of an earlier hard rock band known as Deathwish. The Chosen Few hailed from the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia, and played a combination of covers of US-influenced punk (MC5, Stooges) and hard driven original numbers, generally along the lines of the notorious Lobby Loyde and the Coloured Balls. The Chosen Few recorded one six-track EP "The Jokes On Us", comprising all original numbers, in 1978. The band members were: Iain Weaver (vocals), Bruce Friday (guitar), Cal McAlpine (drums) and Ian Cunningham (bass). The band played regularly around the Melbourne and Adelaide punk scenes, but folded in May 1979. There was a short lived reunion in 1998 with a slightly different lineup. Two LPs were subsequently released: "Do the Manic" (Existential Vacuum Records, USA) and "Really Gonna Punch You Out"(Hate Records, Italy). There was also a compilation CD "A Root and a Beer" released by Au Go Go Records in 1999.
